It is now a month into the season and the season is starting the heat up. Friday night it was a battle in the first quarter. Each team going back and forth scoring, keeping it close. As the game progressed on Pope John Paul II did not let up on the gas pedal and had Independence on their heels outscoring them 28 to 17 in the first half. The second half started in much the same manner as the Knights showed out and let the eagles know whose turf they were on. Independence fought their hearts out but didn’t have a response to Pope John Paul II’s offense or defense. The Knights cruised by easily with an 18-point win. The Knights Quarterback Kenny Munchey went 25/36 for 334 yards and five touchdowns. Elijah Robb had 25 carries for 205 yards along with Colin Cook he had 11 receptions for 165 yards. Munchey said,” this is a good 6A opponent, I felt like we had a pretty good week of preparation heading into this game, but there are things we need to clean up and we could have done a lot better, but we came out with the win. Independence’s Record is now (1-3) as they lost on the road, and they will face Franklin while (4-0) Pope John Paul II heads to Chattanooga next week to face Baylor.
