Memories from an Old Dad
They say if you are still practicing on Thanksgiving Day you have had a great year. Truer words were never spoken. With one of my sons, we were blessed to have experienced it three times and frankly there was no better time for practice than Thanksgiving morning.
The weather was becoming crisp. The pads were off. The team was excited, and breakfast was on the grill. Sausage and eggs. Earning a spot in the state championship game with the kids you had grown up with and worked so hard with was one game away.
Yes, it’s a special day and 25 years later it still brings a smile to my face. The excitement was amazing and something we will never forget. I tell all parents that outside of grand kids these are the best of times. Enjoy this time with your whole family. Your kids have worked hard for all of you to have this opportunity.
And thank the coaches. They are true heroes too!
