The Rebels have lost one game since Dec. 6 – a two-point loss to Cleveland – and have been simply outclassing opponents along the way. If any team is going to stop the Rebels’ momentum, they will have to figure out a way to stop the hot shooting of senior Joe Anderson, of course. However, there are other reliable weapons for Maryville, such as: Josh Seiler, and dual-sport stars Ashton Maples and A.J. Davis. They will host Region 1 Tournament runner-up Dobyns-Bennett (19-13) for a chance to advance to Murfreesboro.

For Oak Ridge (26-5), the Wildcats will travel to Johnson City to face Science Hill (32-3) in their state sectional match-up. Like Maryville, Oak Ridge had been on a roll until it faced the Rebels in the Region 2 Championship Game last Thursday, falling 61-48, giving the Wildcats the less desirable game in the sectionals. While the Hilltoppers will be favored at home, the argument can be made that Oak Ridge has had to face tougher competition when compared to Science Hill. If the Wildcats can get the road upset, look out for how much the “Jonathans” contribute (Milloway and Stewart).

CLASS 2A

Region 1-AA Semifinals (Grainger):

Sullivan South 69, Grainger 66

Greeneville 71, South Greene 47

Championship Game (March 5):

Greeneville 87, Sullivan South 70

Region 2-AA Semifinals (Fulton):

Alcoa 66, Carter 34

Fulton 69, Scott 64

Championship Game (March 5):

Alcoa 72, Fulton 57

AA State Sectionals (March 9):

Alcoa vs. Sullivan South

Greeneville vs. Fulton

After getting its revenge over Fulton in the Region 2 Championship Game last week, Alcoa (21-10) will get to host its sectional game against Sullivan South (29-5). The Tornadoes’ senior guard Nick Roberts has been outstanding for Alcoa as of late, and his squad will also be helped out by fellow senior T.J. Martin and recent transfer product Cam Burden. They will host a Rebels team that has been having their best season in decades, but could not keep up with Greeneville in the Region 1 title game.

Speaking of those Greene Devils (25-6), they will host Fulton (21-7) on Monday night.
