Something Old, Something New

Saturday’s games gave us the return of two historically great programs and a first time winner from Lafayette, TN.

6A– Oakland got revenge for last years’ finals lost to Houston in a big way, scoring 4 touchdowns in the second half to roll past Houston 42-20. As we said over the weekend the teams that can run the ball the best in December usually wins the game and it certainly true Saturday night as Oakland piled up 274 yards rushing to break open a tie game at halftime. The Patriots have now won the 6A championship four times in the last 5 years.

4A– Cinderella Macon County won their first ever football State Championship with a dominating 45-14 win over Melrose. The Boarder brothers combined for 366 yards rushing as the Tigers were unstoppable for most of the night and held the potent Melrose offense to just two scores.

2A– Sam Pickett led Marion County with 232 total yards as Macon County defeated Milan 14-7 in a battle of two historic programs. These teams both have multiple championships but haven’t won since the 90’s. It’s great to see both teams back in the finals.

Maybe the biggest surprise from all the games was that Mase was the only West Tennessee team to bring homer the trophy. while East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee had four winners each
