Each week Henry Eakes gives us a look on what is happening with the Williamson County public school football teams. Here is his week 2 recap.
Last Friday in Williamson County had some marquee matchups on the docket. Today we’ll go through who I’m buying and selling after 2 weeks of football in Williamson County.
Stock up: Brentwood: Coming off an absolute statement win against Brentwood Academy; Brentwood sits atop my buy list for the second consecutive week. With 2 more good tests coming from Hendersonville and Henry County before district play, I’m growing more confident with the Bruins each week.
Stock up: Centennial: Mental mistakes and penalties kept the Cougars off my stock up list last week, but they came back and corrected those in a big way with a 42-0 trouncing of the Summit Spartans. The Cougar’s run game has been strong these first 2 weeks and I’d expect that to continue. An interesting matchup with Independence awaits the Cougars this Friday.
Stock up: Independence: A big time OT win against the Page Patriots propels the Eagles into my stock up section this week. I had my doubts if the Eagles offense could stick with the high-powered Page system and with the performance they put on Friday, it’s clear they can.
Stock Down: Summit: Bad loss to Centennial after a week 1 win. It’s been tough sledding for Summit since the departure of the Wade twins. I’ll be interested to see if the Spartans can keep the train on the tracks this season.
Stock Stagnant: Franklin Admirals: A late comeback looked to be possible for the Admirals last week in their week 2 matchup with FRA. It was all for not though as the Panthers run game broke it open late. The question I pose for the week is can Franklin’s offense take advantage of a Page defense who struggled at times last week against Independence.
Stock Stagnant: Page Patriots: A tough 3 OT loss to Independence puts the Patriots in my stock stagnant section. I’m still high on the Patriots offense and expect them to bounce back against a struggling Franklin Admiral team. That matchup next week intrigues me as Franklin has stuck with Page deep into Football games the last 2 years.
Stock up: Nolensville: Another all around impressive performance from the Knights against Antioch. I’ll continue to believe they are overlooked until I see otherwise. Putting up 50 on the road is no easy feat. I’ll be watching as the Knights look to knock off McGavock this Friday night.
